YORK, PA. – Tysheka Simpson scored 17 points and Shanae Hilliard added 13 for the Apprentice School on Saturday night as they fell 73-51 to The College of New Jersey in the opening round of the York College (PA) Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.
Apprentice School hung around in the first half trailing by 10 twice with the last one coming as Candice Virgo hit a free throw with 8:40 left to put the Lions up 24-14. From then Apprentice School went on an 8-2 flurry cutting the lead to 26-22 on a Hilliard layup with 2:29 left.
That was as close as the Lady Builders got as TCNJ opened the second half on a 10-1 run over the first 3:42 to take a 41-25 lead on a Tiffany DeTullio 3-pointer. Following a jumper and a free throw from Simpson, TCNJ put any doubt away going on a 14-0 run over a five minute span to take a 57-28 lead on a pair of Jess Lynch free throws with 10:32 left.
The Lady Builders will face Wheaton College (MA) Lyons in a 1pm game for third place Sunday in the York College Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.
