ON THE COURT: Junior Shanae Hilliard and senior Courtney Collins scored 13 points apiece to lead four in double figures on Saturday night as the Apprentice School held off a pesky Briarcliffe College for a 59-42 U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association win.

The Lady Builders jumped out to a 6-2 lead on an April McCoy layup with 17:20 left.  Briarcliffe answered with a 3-pointer from Kiara Johnson 15 seconds later cutting the margin to 6-5.  That opened up the Lady Builders as they went on a 19-4 run over the next 10 minutes as a Kenya Wilkerson layup gave the Apprentice School its largest lead of the half at 25-9 with 7:04 left.

In the second half, the Lady Builders scored the first six points to lead 37-20 on a Hillard layup with 17:28 left.  Briarcliffe went on a 12-2 run over the next 6:35 to trail 39-32 on a layup from Sasha SantaMaria with 10:53 left.  Apprentice School put the game out of reach as they went on a 13-0 run as Hilliard capped the run with consecutive 3-pointers to lead 52-32 with 6:09 left.


  • Joining Hilliard and Collins in double figures were Kelsey Daniels and April McCoy with 10 points each.
  • McCoy was the leading rebounder for Apprentice School with nine, while Daniels had eight and Julissa Riddick joined Collins with seven.  Apprentice School out-rebounded Briarcliffe 60-41 for the game.
  • Johnson was the leading scorer in the game for Briarcliffe (9-8) with 19 points, while Shenita Urquhart had 14 points and 11 rebounds. 


The Lady Builders visit New Rochelle, NY on Sunday afternoon for a 4 pm tip against Berkeley College.  These teams split last season, each winning on their home floors.  Berkeley (13-4) is ranked fourth in USCAA Women's Division II.
