Five tournaments, a couple new opponents and a mix of some not on Lady Builder schedules for years will highlight the 2014-15 Apprentice School Women's Basketball schedule announced today by Head Coach Keith Stagg.
The Lady Builders open their season at the Penn State Beaver Tournament on November 15-16. They'll face the hosts on the opening night at 6 pm and then will face either Penn State DuBois or Carlow University the next afternoon.
The home schedule opens the following weekend as Penn State Fayette will visit for a 3pm tip on November 22. Christopher Newport University (CNU) visits the Apprentice Athletic Center on November 23 for a 4pm tip to conclude a Sunday doubleheader. Penn State Fayette will face Bryant & Stratton College at 1pm on that afternoon. It'll be the first time that CNU has faced the Lady Builders since the 2000-01 season.
December will see the Lady Builders take on three members of the NCAA Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association all on the road. They'll open at St. Augustine's College (Dec. 2/5:30 pm), then face Elizabeth City State University (Dec. 11/5:30 pm) and visit Virginia State University (Dev. 16/5:30 pm). This will be the first games against St. Augustine's since the 2003-04 season, Elizabeth City State since the 2007-08 season and Virginia State since the 2008-09 campaign.
In between those games are a pair of home games against United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) member Barber-Scotia College (Dec. 5/5:30 pm) and NCAA Division III Eastern Mennonite University (Dec. 13/2 pm). Virginia State advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament last year, while Eastern Mennonite made the NCAA Division III Tournament.
They'll close December, and 2014, by participating in the Juniata Holiday Tournament when they'll face Widener University on December 30. The next afternoon they'll face either Heidelberg College or Juniata College.
The 2015 portion of the schedule picks up with an eight-game month of January all against USCAA opposition. An opening weekend in New York will see the Lady Builders face Briarcliffe College on Jan. 9 and play St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Jan. 10 in a doubleheader with the men's team. The following weekend they'll host the fifth annual Martin Luther King Classic and take on Briarcliffe, St. Mary of The Woods College (IN) and Berkeley College (NY).
After a two-game swing to Barber-Scotia College (Jan. 22/6 pm) and Washington Adventist University (Jan. 29/6 pm), the month will close with another first-time opponent in West Virginia Tech at home on January 31 at 2 pm.
February will see the Lady Builders open in Selma, Alabama over Valentine's Day weekend when they'll face Selma University on February 14 and a rematch with Concordia University on February 15. Concordia knocked out the Lady Builders from the 2014 USCAA Division I National Championships. After participating in the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Chesson Classic on February 20-21, they'll celebrate Senior Night against Washington Adventist University at 6pm on February 24.
The regular season comes to an end on March 1 with a rematch at West Virginia Tech at 2 pm. If they earn a bid to the USCAA Nationals, those would start Mar. 4-7 in Uniontown, Pa.
