BUIES CREEK, NC - Apprentice School continued its strong season
on Tuesday night scoring a 23-18 wrestling victory over NCAA
Division I Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. The Builders
raised their record to 9-6 on the year and are 3-3 in dual matches
against NCAA Division I opposition.
Campbell started with a win at 125 pounds, before the Apprentice
School took victories at the next three bouts. Apprentice School's
Micah Amrozowicz battled Campbell's David Wise from Tabb High in
Yorktown in the first overtime match of the night at 133 lbs. The
two recorded only one escape point apiece during regulation, but
Amrozowicz scored a takedown with just under 11 seconds left in the
first overtime to drop Wise 3-1. It was Amrozowicz 32nd win on the
season, and it tied the match at 3-3.
Apprentice freshman Jeremiah Jones went to overtime at 141 lbs.
in the following match against Trevour Smith. The two ended the
second period deadlocked at 3-3 and 5-5 the end of regulation.
Jones scored a takedown on a quick shot 10 seconds into overtime
for the win to give the Builders a 6-3 lead. Fellow freshman Matt
Perry answered that with a 5-4 victory at 149 pounds to push the
Apprentice School lead to 9-3.
The Builders forfeited the next two weights to give the host
Camels a 15-9 lead. Senior Rudy Leming started the Apprentice
School comeback with a win by pin in 4:46 to tie the score at
15-all. Junior Justin Gilliard recorded a 5-3 decision at 184
pounds to push the Builders back in front 18-15.
Senior Tommy Arnold iced the victory for the Builders recording
a 17-0 technical fall victory to give the Builders a 23-15 lead
heading into the heavyweight match.
Apprentice School will close out its dual match season with a
tri-match at Washington & Lee University on Saturday and
Southern Virginia University.
