GARLAND, TEX. - The Apprentice School wrestling team sits in
third place out of 67 teams after three rounds of the 2007 National
Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championships at the
Garland Special Events Center. Grand Valley State leads the team
scoring with 106.5 points followed by University of Central Florida
91.5 and Apprentice School with 66 points.
Four wrestlers advanced to Saturday's semifinal round at 10 am
EST. Senior Micah Amrozowicz, at 133 pounds, started with a win by
pin in 1:32 over Michael Donovan of Grand Valley State in the first
round. His next two matches were both by decision 11-4 in the
second round and a 14-4 major decision over Isaac Wall of Newman
College in the quarters.
Freshman Jeremiah Jones scored his first win at 141 pounds by a
pin in 5:48 over Tommy Ferrante of Lafayette College. His next two
were also by decision 10-8 in the second round and an 11-9 sudden
victory win over Cody Struening of Northampton CC to advance to the
semifinals.
Juniors Eric Lybarger and Cecil Lee have had the easier routes
so far as they have won their matches by pin. Lybarger at 174
pounds, pinned Scott Wiser of Colorado State in 5:51 in the second
round and Joey Martinez of Kansas State in 5:34 in the quarters.
Lee, at 285 pounds, won his opening match in 2:03 over Brett
Jenlink of Newman College and then defeated Raul Mendoza of
Williamson Trade School in 6:37.
Amrozowicz, Jones and Lybarger all face University of Central
Florida wrestlers in the semifinals, while Lee takes on one from
University of New Hampshire.
