Builders eliminated at Va Duals 22-20 by Wagner

The Apprentice School advanced to the second day of the Virginia Duals for the second year in a row, but this time they were not as fortunate as last season.

The Builders were eliminated from the event with a hard fought 22-20 loss to Wagner College.  Apprentice School had more bout victories in this match (6-4) but three of the four defeats were by pin which provided the bonus points needed for the win.

Sophomore Kevin Hill opened the match for the Builders recording a 13-7 decision over Nicholas Keshecki and freshman Justin Olanowski earned a 19-1 tech fall victory over Joe Eurell to put the Builders ahead 8-0.

Sophomore Matt Perry's 10-5 victory at 149 pounds put the Builders up 11-5 heading into the middleweights.  After a loss at 157, seniors Justin Gilliard (10-7 at 165 pounds) and Eric Lybarger (5-3 at 174) put Apprentice School ahead 17-10 heading into the final three bouts.

Wagner received a forfeit at 184 and recorded a win by pin at heavyweight to take the 22-20 win.  In between that was a 7-2 victory for Kendall Ridenour at 197 pounds that gave the Builders a shot into the heavyweight match as they held a 17-16 advantage.

In the semifinals, the Builders fell 49-0 to NCAA Division II 10^th-ranked Newberry College.    

Next up for the Builders will be a tri-match at York College in Pennsylvania next Saturday starting at noon.
