LAKELAND, FLA. -- Senior Justin Gilliard (165 pounds) and
freshman Charles Robinson (184) each won quarterfinal matches on
Friday afternoon to make the semifinals at the 2008 National
Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championships at the
Lakeland Center.
The wins by Gilliard and Robinson guaranteed them All-American
honors as they'll finish in the top eight to earn the honor.
It'll be the first for Robinson and the third for Gilliard.
Four of the five wrestlers in the consolation rounds were
eliminated by the end of the day on Friday. Freshman Thad
Lloyd scored a major decision in his first consolation match after
losing his quarterfinal match to be the last wrestler left in the
consolation round for the Builders. That win guaranteed him a
spot on the All-American list for 184 pounds.
After the final session of Friday, the Builders were in seventh
place out of 75 teams competing in the tournament.
