Six wrestlers place in the top six at York Spartan Invitational


YORK, PA. - Six Apprentice School wrestlers finished in the top six in their weight classes on Saturday in the York Spartan Invitational at York College (Pa.) Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center.

Freshman Thad Lloyd was the top man in that group taking second at 184 pounds with a 3-1 record.  He went the distance in every match scoring a 14-10 decision in his opening match and knocking off Randy Criss of host York College 9-4 to advance to the semifinals.  In those he defeated another York College wrestler Brian Adams 7-3 before falling 9-5 to top-seeded Mike Wilcox of Delaware Valley College.

Freshman Charles Robinson was third at 174 pounds finishing with a 4-1 record on the day.  Robinson started with a 7-2 victory over Derek Schisler of Centenary in the opener and then knocked off John Barnett of eventual team winner Delaware Valley College 6-2.  He advanced to the semifinals with an 11-2 major decision over Josh Cook of Elizabethtown College before falling to Greg Osgoodby of The College of New Jersey in the semis.  In the third place match he defeated teammate Eric Lybarger via medical forfeit.  Lybarger took fourth with a 2-1 record on the day with a win by pin over Gerald Tyler of Washington & Jefferson in 5:51 and knocked off Jamie Arze of York via an 8-0 major decision.  In the semifinals he lost to Brandon Macwhinnie of Stevens Institute before losing to Robinson.

Senior Justin Giliard was 3-1 at 165 pounds to take third place.  He opened with a win over Mike Degregorio of Delaware Valley College via pin in 1:30 before defeating Jared Botchie of York College by a 7-2 margin to advance to the semifinals where he lost to eventual champion Randy Moore of Gloucester County College.  In the third place match he won by a medical forfeit.  Josh Flint (141 pounds) and Kendall Ridenour (197) earned top six finishes in their weight classes in the ten-team tournament.

Next up for the Builders will be the start of a dual match run as they visit St. Andrew's Presbyterian College on Tuesday night for a 7 pm match.
