Simpson 31, Apprentice School 13
In their first of four matches on Tuesday in the Desert Duals,
the Apprentice School wrestling team lost 31-13 to Simpson College
of Iowa. Simpson won the first six bouts to take a 25-0 lead before
senior Eric Lybarger scored a 10-2 major decision over Jordy Ammons
for a 25-4 deficit. Freshman Charles Robinson recorded the first
win by pin at 184 pounds with a victory over Ryan Napoli in 3:30 to
cut the Simpson lead to 25-10. Senior Kendall Ridenour defeated
Colton White at 197 pounds via a 7-4 decision for the Builders'
final victory in the dual match.

Apprentice School 34, Central 18
In the second match of the day, the Builders rebounded with a
34-18 victory over Central College of Iowa. Apprentice School
raced out to a 17-3 lead after the first four bouts as sophomore
Kevin Hill opened the dual match with a win in 1:14 over Brandon
Rose at 125 pounds and freshman Justin Olanowski got a win by
forfeit at 133 pounds. Following a close 12-10 loss at 141
pounds, sophomore Matt Perry scored a 20-4 technical fall win over
Nick Johnson for the 17-3 lead. Seniors Justin Gilliard (18-1
tech fall win at 165 pounds) and Eric Lybarger (win by pin in 1:28
at 174) helped push the Builders lead to 28-9 after 174 pounds as
the Apprentice School evened its record in the event to 1-1.

The Builders faced off against the second team of the
third-ranked NAIA team in the University of Great Falls (Mt.) and
lost 35-14. Apprentice School won three matches in the
dual coming all in a row. Justin Gilliard won his third match
of the day with an 11-2 major decision at 165 pounds over
Jacob Buttenhoff to cut the deficit to 21-4. Eric Lybarger
also won his third match of the day with a 9-0 major decision over
John Quintell at 174 pounds. Freshman Charles Robinson won
his match at 184 by forfeit to make the score 21-14.

Apprentice School closed the day by losing to Menlo University
(Calif.) 33-15. Sophomore Kevin Hill started the match with
his second win by pin defeating Jose Hernandez in 3:41 at 125
pounds. Sophomore Matt Perry recorded a 10-5 decision over
Jarrell Price at 149 pounds, while senior Kendall Ridenour recorded
a win via forfeit at 197 pounds for the Builder victories in this
dual match.
