12 Builders Advance After Day One Of NCWA Nationals
HAMPTON, VA. - The Apprentice School advanced 12 wrestlers after day one of the 2009 National Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championships at the Hampton University Convocation Center.
The Builders are currently third out of the 84 teams competing in the national championships with 31 points. Apprentice School has six wrestlers advancing to the quarterfinals with a pair of wins on Thursday. Junior Matt Perry (149 lbs.), freshman Marcus Chevres (133 lbs.), senior Ty Holley (141 lbs.), sophomore Will Harcum (165 lbs.), freshman Charles Mills (174 lbs.) and senior Cecil Lee (285 lbs.) all went 2-0 on Thursday. Lee won both of his matches by fall, while Mills won his first match by a 15-0 technical fall and then scored a fall in 5:57 in his second round matchup.
Grand Valley State leads the event with 34 points, followed by Marion Military Institute with 33.5 points. University of Central Florida is fourth with 23.5 points with US Naval Academy Prep in fifth with 21.5 points.
The event continues on Friday starting at 9 am at the Convocation Center with the quarterfinals starting at 5 pm.
