Builders Lead NCWA Nationals Heading Into Final Session
Heading into the final round of the 2009 NCWA National Championships, the Apprentice School holds onto first place with 113.5 points increasing its lead over three-time defending champion Grand Valley State to 12.5 points at the Hampton University Convocation Center on Saturday.
Senior Ty Holley advanced to the third-place match at 141 pounds as he recorded a victory by injury default over Mark Burchardt of Hudson Valley Community College. After a victory over Jason Mustall of Mott Community College in the consolation quarterfinals he will face Mike Giordano of Northampton Community College for third place.
Sophomore Will Harcum lost a 11-4 decision to Nick Newell of Kansas State in his consolation semifinal matchup. He opened the day defeating Michael Wright of Delaware by fall in 1:43 and will now face Steve Bauer of Mott Community College for fifth place at 165 pounds.
Freshman Charles Mills scored a fall in his 174 pound consolation semifinal matchup over Michael Bard of Delaware in 5:56. After falling in his semifinal match in the morning, Mills now will face Oscar Huntley of the U.S. Naval Academy Prep School for third place.
