Wrestlers Drop Three Duals In Citrus Open

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. - The Apprentice School wrestling team lost three dual matches on Tuesday in the final day of the Citrus Open at Cardinal Gibbons High School.  The Builders fell 36-10 to Ursinus College (Pa.), 23-18 to Simpson College (Ia.) and 29-15 to Washington & Jefferson College (Pa.).

Against Ursinus, the Builders trailed 10-0 after the first two bouts but took victories at 141 by Will Sexton and at 149 by Matt Perry to cut the deficit to 10-7.  From there, the Bears scored victories in the next five bouts to ice the win.

In the next match against Simpson, the Builders opened with a pair of wins by pin by Marcus Chevres and Ty Holley to take a 12-0 advantage.  The Storm struck with wins in the next four bouts to hold a 17-12 lead heading into the final four weight classes.  Each team split those bouts with the Storm taking the last two to hold onto the 23-18 win.

The last match of the day pitted the Builders against the Presidents of Washington & Jefferson College.  After trading decision victories in the first two bouts, the Presidents impeached the Builders chances with four straight victories for a 17-3 lead after 165 pounds.  Holley and Austen Damico scored victories while Dan Hare picked up a win by forfeit for the Builders' 15 points.

For the day, Holley was 2-0, while Austen Damico and Hare were 2-1.

Next up for the Builders will be the Virginia Duals on January 9-10 at the Hampton Coliseum.
