YORK, PA. - The Apprentice School wrestling team competed in
probably its toughest tournament thus far and finished eighth in
the New Standard Spartan Invitational hosted by York College.
Four teams that are ranked in the current NCAA Division III Top 15
and two perennial nationally-ranked programs were participants in
the ten-team event.
Senior Will Harcum continued his impressive start as he finished
sixth at 174. The Williamsburg, Va. native went 3-2 in the
event with two wins by fall raising his season total to 12 falls
and a 15-3 overall record. He opened the event with a win in
48 seconds over Dennis Bencosme of fourth-ranked Ithaca College and
won his first match in the wrestleback round in 41 seconds over
Noel Richardson of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Three wrestlers were a round away from placing in the top
six. Sophomore Marcus Chevres at 133 pounds (3-2), freshman
Patrick McIntosh at 157 pounds (3-2) and freshman LA Colon at
heavyweight (4-2) each were eliminated one round from finishing no
lower than sixth. Chevres' first win of the tournament came
against Jordan Alfaro who was the second-seed at 133 pounds from
USMMA by a 12-7 decision.
Next up for the Builders will be a quad match at the University
of Maryland Baltimore County on December 12.
