Builders Compete In 77th Wilkes Open
The Apprentice School wrestling team sent five wrestlers to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on Monday to compete in the 77th annual Wilkes Open at Wilkes University.
Senior Will Harcum went 3-2 in the event at 174 pounds with three wins by pin. He opened the event with a win in 37 seconds over Tyler Pickard of the hosts school Wilkes University. After losing to Ken Monarque of East Stroudsburg, Harcum reeled off a pair of wins in the consolation bracket by fall. Harcum defeated Tim Vollaro of Springfield University in 2:59 and Logan Shirey of NCAA Division II University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown in 3:30 before losing to Jules Doliscar of top-ranked junior college power Nassau Community College. The Williamsburg, Va. native was three wins from placing in the long-standing event billed as the Rose Bowl of Wrestling.
Four other Builders participated in the event unfortunately going 0-2 on the day. Next up for the Builders will be the 30th annual Virginia Duals on January 8-9 at the Hampton Coliseum.
