NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- The Apprentice School wrestling team hit the home mat for a dual with Washington & Lee University on Saturday and came away with a 36-9 win.
After opening the dual with a forfeit win at 125 pounds for Ty Ford and no contest at 133, Eric Fessell scored a late reversal at 141 pounds to defeat Marcus Chevres 10-9 to put the Builder lead at 6-3.
Sam Campbell pulled the Generals even at 149 pounds with a 4-1 win over Odis Wesby before the Builders scored wins in the next two bouts. Kyle Spruill won at 157 pounds in 36 seconds over Brian Ross and Ricky Anderson pinned H.T. Kotchinian in 52 seconds to put Apprentice School up 18-6. Anderson's win gave him 40 on the year which makes him the fifth Builder to win 40 or more matches in a single season.
Washington & Lee scored its final win at 174 pounds as Daniel Igle edged Anthony Damico 12-11 to bring the Generals to within 18-9. The Builders earned forfeit wins for Steven Ours (184), Willie Crawford (197) and Stuart Roes (HWT) to take the 36-9 win.
Apprentice School (17-8) now will wrestle again next Saturday when they host St. Andrews at 2 pm and College of William & Mary at approximately 4:30 pm.
