If you're a fan of Apprentice School athletics – this weekend is made for you. All three winter teams are in action and in town.
The wrestling team will hit the mat at 11 am on Friday in the Hampton Coliseum for the 32nd annual Virginia Duals. Apprentice School (10-3) will face the second-seed Nassau Community College (NY) in the opening round of the American College Division. Nassau enters the event ranked ranked eighth in the National Junior College Athletic Association and have seven wrestlers ranked in the top ten in their weight classes.
A win would put the Builders into Saturday's semifinals against #3-seed Liberty University or Anderson University (SC) at 2 pm. A loss against Nassau would put the Builders into a consolation match against the Liberty-Anderson loser at 1 pm Friday. For information on the Virginia Duals – click here.
Shifting to the hardwood, the Apprentice School Lady Builders (11-1) will open the 2012 Martin Luther King Classic at the Apprentice School gym on Friday night at 6 pm against Barber-Scotia College. This is a three-game weekend for the Lady Builders who will face a pair of top ten nationally-ranked teams in their final games. On Saturday night at 6 pm, they'll take on third-ranked Briarcliffe College (NY). The following afternoon they'll end the MLK Classic against ninth-ranked Berkeley College (NY) at 2 pm.
The men will also see action in the MLK Classic this weekend and will also face Barber-Scotia College on Friday night at approximately 8 pm. On Sunday afternoon the men will end the classic facing Williamson Trade at 4 pm. Apprentice School (11-3) has already defeated both teams earlier this season knocking off Barber-Scotia (72-69) and Williamson Trade (84-55).
