Apprentice Athletics - Feb. 11 weekend preview

All three winter teams will see action over the weekend with one team competing in town, while two head north.

The fifth-ranked Builders host in-state rival Southern Virginia University in a 2 pm tip on Saturday afternoon.  Apprentice School is coming off an 88-82 loss to Washington Adventist on February 5, while the Knights defeated Valley Forge Christian 74-68 on February 4 to put their record at 10-9.  SVU won the 2011 USCAA National Championship and are currently ranked third in the USCAA Coaches Poll.

The Lady Builders will hit the Big Apple – New York, this weekend for a pair of USCAA contests against nationally-ranked foes.  On Saturday night, they'll visit Seaford, NY to take on fourth-ranked Briarcliffe College.  These teams faced off in the Martin Luther King Classic last month with the Lady Builders taking a 65-52 victory.  Briarcliffe enters 15-4 after defeating Kings College 63-27 two weeks ago, while the Lady Builders are coming off a 68-55 victory over Bennett College on February 4.

The next day they'll travel to Berkeley College to face the Knights at 1 pm.  These teams also faced off in the MLK Classic with Apprentice School taking a 69-44 decision.  Berkeley (11-9) faces Vaughn College on Saturday prior to the Lady Builder contest and have lost their last four in a row.

The wrestling team heads to Pennsylvania this weekend for a dual match on Saturday and a tournament on Sunday at Penn State University.

They'll start the weekend in Bellefonte, PA where they'll take on USCAA member Penn State DuBois in a dual match at Bellefonte High School.  These teams met in November at the Electric City Duals in Scranton, PA where Penn State DuBois edged the Builders 25-21.

On Sunday, they'll visit Penn State University's Rec Hall to compete in the USCAA National Invitational Tournament.  Rec Hall is where the Penn State varsity program, currently ranked second in NCAA Division I, competes and the Builders will see nine other USCAA member institutions in the second national invitational.
