Wrestlers Win 2012 USCAA Invitational - Chevres Breaks Career Wins Record

STATE COLLEGE, PA. – The Apprentice School wrestling team pulled out a tournament title on Sunday afternoon by winning the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association Invitational crown at Penn State University's Rec Hall.

The tournament went down to the heavyweight final where freshman Ian Jones scored a 2-1 decision over Jake Gregg to give the Builders a 169-167 victory in the 10-team tournament over Lindenwood-Belleville.

Senior Marcus Chevres went 3-0 to win the 133-pound weight class where he defeated three LIndenwood opponents to win the title.  With his 5-1 win over Ethan Swingle in the final, Chevres broke the Apprentice School career wins record formerly held by current assistant coach Cecil Lee with 127.

The depth of the Builders proved vital as the team took five second place slots in junior Ty Ford (125), Kyle Spruill (149), Anthony Damico (165), Justin Martz (184) and Kevin Gray (235).  Three Builders took third behind senior Will Sexton (157), freshman CW Sorey (174) and sophomore Willie Crawford (235).

Apprentice School now will travel to Lexington, VA to face Washington & Lee University in a dual match on February 18 for a 10 am match.
