Wrestling Takes Second At NCWA Mid-Atlantic Conference

LYNCHBURG, VA. – The Apprentice School wrestling team  took two firsts and two second place finishers and finished second to host Liberty University in the 2012 National Collegiate Wrestling Association Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday.

Junior Ty Ford and senior Marcus Chevres each won a conference title taking the 125 and 133 pound crowns respectively with each being by a technical fall.  Both went 3-0 on the day as Ford won his first title, while Chevres finished his career a four-time NCWA Mid-Atlantic Conference champion.

Two others made the finals and came in second place as junior Kevin Gray at 235 and freshman Ian Jones at heavyweight went 2-1 on the day to finish as conference runnerup.

Host Liberty snapped a 10-year streak of conference titles for the Apprentice School as they won the 15-team event with 191 points.  Apprentice School, coming in second for first time since 2000-01, had 139 which edged out St. Andrews (137) and University of Maryland Baltimore County (124).  Middle Tennessee State was fifth with 88 points.

The Builders are now heading to Daytona Beach, FL. for the NCWA National Championships from Mar. 8-10.
