Wrestlers Start Season With Three Firsts At Virginia Beach Nationals

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – The Apprentice School wrestling team opened its season on Saturday with a solid showing at the Virginia Beach Nationals Open Tournament held at the Virginia Beach Field House.

Apprentice School wrestlers came away with three first place finishes in the 60-man open division.  Freshman Derek Burhenn won at 133 pounds winning a pair of matches by fall and a decision in the finals.  Sophomore Sterling Briscoe went 4-0 at 149-pounds to win that bracket with three wins coming by fall. At heavyweight, sophomore Ian Jones went 3-0 with two wins by fall and a sudden victory 3-1 decision in the finals to capture that division.

Taking second place finishes were: freshman Jake Michael at 125 pounds (2-1), sophomore Dwayne Roes at 141 (3-1), senior Kyle Spruill at 157 (2-1) and freshman Luke Hansen at 197 (1-1).

The Builders will now travel to Scranton, Pennsylvania to participate in the Electric City Duals hosted by the University of Scranton on November 10.
