IN BRIEF: Ferrum College scored wins in four of the first five bouts to take a 32-10 decision over The Apprentice School in the consolation semifinals of the American College Division in the 34th annual Virginia Duals on Saturday afternoon.
ON THE MAT: Ferrum opened the dual with bonus point wins in two of the first three matches as the Panthers took a 14-0 lead after 141 pounds.
Sterling Briscoe got the Builders on the board with a 14-6 major decision over Josh Lancaster at 149 pounds to put the Builders on the board down 14-4. After giving up a decision at 157, Chris Kennedy scored a 12-6 decision to put the Builders down 17-7.
The Panthers put the dual away with wins in the next three bouts, two of those by fall to take a 32-7 lead after 197 pounds.
Junior Ian Jones ended the dual for the Builders with a 3-2 win over Tate Dulany to make the final 32-10.
BEHIND THE SCORESHEET
- Jones finished the weekend 3-0 for the Builders, while CW Sorey was 2-1.
- With the 1-2 weekend, coach Bruce Shumaker remains at 98 career wins for the Builders. His next shot to get to 100 wins will be at the NCWA National Duals in Dalton, Georgia on January 24-25.
The Builders will host the annual Builder Invitational on January 18 at Woodside High School.
