Wrestling (8-0)

The wrestling team returns to action this weekend in Arlington, Texas as they will have a pair of dual matches tonight against the University of Texas-Arlington and the University of North Texas.

This will be the first-ever dual matches with these schools as all three will also participate on Saturday in the 14-team Southwest Open hosted by the Mavericks of the University of Texas-Arlington.

Two Builders have gone through the first two weekends of the season undefeated as sophomore Thomas Payne at 133 pounds (8-0) and senior Ian Jones at 285 pounds (7-0).  Six others have only one loss on their records through the first two weeks: Jacob Michael (125/7-1), Michael Holcomb (133/7-1), Patrik Foxworth (149/7-1), Robert Saunders (149/2-1), Tyrell Watkins (157/4-1) and Josh Rodriguez (197/7-1).

The Mavericks are 2-1 in dual matches this year, while the Mean Green of North Texas are 0-1 this year.


Men's Basketball (3-1)

The Builders hit the road on Sunday for Raleigh, N.C. to face the Bears of Shaw University for a 4pm tip.  This will be the first-ever men's basketball game between the Builders and the Bears.

Apprentice School enters after a second-place finish in the Virginia Wesleyan College Marlin Tip-off last weekend.  They defeated Delaware Valley College 82-66 in the opener, before falling 87-68 to the 18th-ranked hosts on Sunday.

Johnnie Ferebee leads the team in scoring (18 ppg), assists (5.0 apg) and is third in rebounds (6.8 rpg).  Jay Melendez is the other double-figure scorer averaging 16.8 points and is second in rebounds at 8.3 per game.

Shaw is 1-1 after splitting a pair of games in the West Virginia State Tournament last weekend.  They lost to Nortre Dame (OH) 93-71 and defeated the hosts 74-66.  Koron Reed leads the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and shares the rebounding lead at 7.5 per game with DeAaron Ward.  Alibaba Odd is next in scoring at 14.0 ppg, followed by Jamar Cooper (12 ppg) and Larry Richardson at 11.5 per game.


Women's Basketball (1-1)

The Lady Builders not only open their home schedule this weekend with a pair of games, but will be honoring all former Lady Builders in the 20th year of women's basketball on Sunday.

Tomorrow afternoon, the Lady Builders host Penn State Fayette (0-2) at 3 pm.  This will be the seventh meeting all-time between the schools with the Lady Builders winning the first six games.

Junior Kenya Wilkerson leads the team in scoring at 12.5 ppg, and assists (5.0 apg) while being third in rebounding also at 5.0 per game.  Senior Shane Hilliard is next in scoring at 12 ppg, followed by sophomore Jessica Neighbors at 11 per game.

On Sunday, the Lady Builders will host 19th-raned Christopher Newport University (1-2) at 4pm.  At halftime of the game, there will be a special ceremony honoring the 20 years of Lady Builder basketball as all former players will be recognized.
